What fashion aspects are being picked up for this season?

Happy first day of fall! Grab yourself something pumpkin spice -maybe pecan, chai or maple- and take a glance into my current favorites, and pieces I’ve noticed gaining traction.

Firstly, it may seem cliché, but it’s essential to note that the clothes you look best in will always be the ones you feel confident in. Trends truly are not subject to everyone. Take what you personally like and formulate your own sense of fashion. After all, that’s how we keep it interesting and re-wearable within our own closets. It’s also what allows clothes to be art and expression, and how new inspiration and trends take root.

Colours of the season. Look outside: nature is the perfect inspiration for the fall palate. There are the various shades of red -and all the branches of it- which appear every fall season. Eye-catching pops of crimson, like changing leaves, rich maroon, wine-like burgundy and endless shades of the deep color all over. Alongside reds, are deeper neutrals, such as earthy browns, yellows, oranges, greens and pretty much any colour you can find on the ground in late September flowing into October.

To me the innovative part is finding new combinations to explore within this already coxy yet evocative spread.

For accenting colours, I am currently loving playful blush pinks for a shadowed maroon. To me, this combo is the perfect balance of elegance and a little flirtatious touch. It also creates an almost monochromatic vibe with these differing levels of a primary color. Imagine this combo with delicately flowy shapes and drapey fabrics.

A classic fall combo would be the tried-and-true brown with any khaki variation or green aspects, especially with a deep green leaning into the warmer golden palate. Always giving that I have a hot chai in my hand, a scarf waiting by the door and a pumpkin to be carved this evening feeling.

Going off of some more tones already covered, red and blue, contrasting, effective and amusing, I’ve been raving over this in my personal wardrobe. Imagine a blue boxy long sleeve, leaning into a reliable navy with a crimson purse as your accessory (and for convenience). Add a pair of glossy, deep red ballet flats to balance it out.

Lastly, imagine a plummy color paired with an olive style green. It’s different and a little eccentric while keeping these same core values of fall, warm tones, contrast, yet an earthly connection drawing intrigue.

Exploring proportion. Proportion is a focal point in fall 2026 fashion, with funnel necks trending, the comeback of capris still in effect and layers which are a returning fall aspect for seasonable reasons.

Glasses, too, have been sparking interest. I have noticed a divide in tiny, delicate rectangular or oval frames and loud, squarish or chunky frames. Glasses are one of those additions that just has to correlate to the person -or the occasion.

In many places fashion has been really leaning into interesting proportions. Those modish, long Camis you’ve been seeing, typically silk, are totally exploring differing lengths of where the visual bottom of an outfit begins. High-necked bombers, funnel-neck coats and turtlenecks all do something similar, shifting focus upward, creating a riveting elegance to the top portion.

Another prevalent aspect of proportion would be in shoes. Kitten heels being a current favorite as they can attract a little height and appear to lengthen the calf, which can pair nicely with proportions that lengthen the top half of an outfit.

Fabric choices. This one might be a personal favorite, not only considering the comfort of some materials on the skin, but also the intricacy it can add to an outfit.

To speak of Camis again, think of a deep wine, long-length Cami with a flowing, simple cut over a long sleeve, tight lace undershirt. Taking advantage of layers and textures to form something a bit livening and intentional.

Canvas and thick, warm jackets will always be a staple of fall. Offering room for layers underneath, and not too much going on so you can add a bag, scarf, mittens or whatever else you may desire.

Denim is a constant staple too, in your chosen jeans, denim skirt or jacket, paired with a cozy knit sweater or maybe some stockings. I know this year I have been leaning into dark denim, paired with creamy colours to build a pleasant, mellow basic.

Lastly, homemade and second-hand items.

Please, if you’re a creative person, embrace it. Anything knit, crotched or handmade already has that formulated warmth to it from the uniqueness and effort!

Side note… If anyone wants to teach me… I would love to learn how to crochet or knit!

This connects to second-hand shopping and thrifting as well. Now more than ever, there are certain clothing shapes and types which dominate our media and stores. If you are looking for something distinctive, or with that inherently cozy, lived in vibe… shop second hand!

There is an incomparable feeling to finding that perfect embodiment of yourself in a piece of clothing, that is already harder to come across and has that comforting aspect to it. You can only get that through the thrift. Plus, you can probably get it at a more affordable price and it’s better for the environment! Benefits falling everywhere!
